Warranty
What we stand behind, and for how long.
Hardware from the shop, work we carried out at your home, and the ninety days that sit on top of both.
Last updated 16 September 2026
- Backed by the supplier's own warranty
- We carry the claim, not the manufacturer
- Board work must stay with a qualified electrician
Hardware from the shop
Every product carries the warranty its supplier gives it. The term is set by the manufacturer or by the distributor we buy from, so it varies by brand and by product rather than being one figure we set across the shop.
Ask us before you buy and we will tell you what applies to the item in front of you. It is on your invoice either way, so you are never relying on having remembered a conversation.
Whatever that term is, the first six months are covered by section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, which gives you the choice of repair, replacement or refund outright. That is law rather than a promise from us, and no supplier's terms shorten it. See delivery and returns.
You claim from us
Not from the brand, and not from a distributor you have never dealt with. We sold it to you, so the claim is ours to carry and ours to chase. That is the difference between a warranty and a phone number.
Email sales@solarsmartautomation.co.za with your order number and what it is doing, or send it on WhatsApp. A photograph or a ten-second video of the fault saves a week. We arrange the courier, at our cost, and we tell you what we find.
What is not covered
- Board work done by somebody who is not a qualified electrician. Anything inside a distribution board is notifiable electrical work — it is also the one thing that will void the manufacturer's warranty as well as ours.
- Lightning and surge damage where there was no surge protection on the circuit. We will tell you at the assessment where you are exposed.
- Water on hardware rated for indoors, and heat on hardware rated for a wall cavity.
- Third-party firmware, or a device reflashed to something the manufacturer did not write.
- Wear on a moving part — a curtain motor's belt, a lock's mechanism — past its rated cycles.
- Accidental damage. It is not a warranty claim, but ask anyway: a spare part is often cheaper than either of us expects.
Work we carried out
The electrical work
A qualified electrician does anything inside a board, every time, and you get the documentation for what was changed. That is what makes the installation insurable and it is not an optional extra on any job we quote.
Our workmanship
Twelve months. If something we fitted fails because of the way we fitted it — a connection, a mounting, a configuration — we come back and put it right at no charge, labour included.
The ninety days
Separate from all of the above, and the one we are asked about most. If the savings we projected have not shown up on your bill within ninety days of handover, we come back and retune the automations at no charge. Not a refund, and we do not pretend otherwise — it is a commitment to keep working on it until the number is real.
Everything we put in writing
The warranty is one of five. The others are on the home page, and they are all on this page for the same reason: a commitment you cannot find when you need it is not a commitment.
- Free assessment The written findings are yours to keep, act on, or take to a competitor.
- Fixed price Itemised line by line, and it does not move once you have accepted it.
- Qualified electrician Every time, documented. Board work is notifiable and we do not cut corners.
- No lock-in Zigbee, Matter and Modbus. Any competent installer can take it over.
- Ninety days If the saving has not shown up on your bill, we come back and retune.
